Tansen – a charming hill town

Tansen is a hill town in the Palpa District of Nepal, located in the western part of the country, about 200 km west of Kathmandu. It is situated at an altitude of 1,300 meters (4,265 feet) above sea level, and is known for its pleasant climate, picturesque views, and historical sites.

Some of the things to see and do in Tansen include:

Visit the Tansen Durbar: This beautiful palace was once the residence of the rulers of the Palpa Kingdom. The palace complex includes several buildings, such as the Rana palace, the Rani palace, and the Durbar Hall. Built in the 19th century it features a mix of Nepali and European architectural styles, and is now a museum showcasing the history and culture of the region.

Explore the Srinagar Hill: This hill, located just outside of Tansen, offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. It is a great place for a leisurely hike or a picnic.

Visit the Sitalpati Temple: This is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, and is located on a hill overlooking the town. It is a popular spot for tourists to visit, as it offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.

Explore the Tansen Bazaar: This bustling market is known for its local handicrafts, including traditional textiles, jewelry, and woodcarvings. It is a great place to shop for souvenirs and learn about local artisanal traditions.

Overall, Tansen is a beautiful and historic town that offers a variety of attractions for tourists to explore. It is a great destination for those looking to experience the natural beauty and cultural richness of Nepal. One day is enough to see all these places and I visited them on foot.
